LAHORE – US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director for Pakistan Andrew Sisson inaugurated the new production house, Sim Sim Hamara, for USAID’s Children’s Television Project here on Wednesday.
Andrew Sisson also reviewed progress regarding the launch of Pakistan Children Television (PCTV). The PCTV would be launched in November. The project is funded by the American people through USAID and is being implemented in cooperation with the Rafi Peer Theater Workshop and Sesame Street Workshop, US. During his visit of the production studio, Andrew Sisson interacted with newly created puppets and their puppeteers. Sisson also expressed support for education initiatives like Sim Sim Hamara for young students in Pakistan. “USAID has brought together Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop and Sesame Street Workshop with the hope of supporting the education of Pakistan’s youngest citizens. I am personally very excited to know that Pakistani children will soon have an opportunity to grow and learn with characters much like those of Sesame Street that the children of the United States love”, he said
The Children’s Television Project is developing high quality educational multimedia programs aimed at improving language, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in children. The programs also promote positive attitudes and tolerance. The project will broadcast 78 Urdu language television and radio episodes and 13 episodes in each of the four major provincial languages of Pakistan. In addition, the project will work to involve out-of-school children in various educational activities. Mr Sisson while talking to media said that he was hoping that the project would be successful. He said the children would have fun as well as education through this project.
